Work Experience

  • 2001-present – The Center for History and New Media (George Mason University, Fairfax, VA)
    • developed and maintained the ingester (scraping), export, bibliography, and word integration portions of Zotero, a next-generation research and citation tool funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Institute for Museum and Library Sciences
    • developed and maintained the backend of History News Network, a popular forum for discussion of history-related topics mentioned in the New York Times
    • developed the linguistic processing system for the H-BOT Automated Historical Fact Finder, later licensed to Powerset
    • managed the upgrade of CHNM Tools 4.0, a set of web applications useful for teaching, including a web scrapbook and survey builder
    • co-developed the backend of History Matters, an award-winning series of resources relating to the U.S. history survey course
    • co-developed the backend of the French Revolution project, a collection of resources relating to the French Revolution
    • several other projects
  • 2007-present – Koch Lab (Caltech, Pasadena, CA)
    • performed analysis of data derived from human medial temporal lobe single neuron recordings
  • 2004-present – ER Credit Consulting (Parma, OH)
    • developed, deployed, and maintained an SQL database solution streamlining all organizational operations
  • 2003 – PGP Corporation (Palo Alto, CA)
    • assisted in the development of the Microsoft Entourage interface for PGP Desktop, an email and file encryption product

  • 2002 – developed and deployed an online payment system for contributions to the Tim Hagan for Governor campaign
  • 2000 – received President's Student Service Award for assistance with a series of workshops dedicated to training teachers in the use of technology, and the deployment of a server, website, and network infrastructure for the Oberlin Public Schools
